Here at Rainbows Hospice, we're expanding our reach across the East Midlands, aiming to support more families than ever before. As part of this growth, we are rapidly expanding our retail shops across the five counties of the East Midlands, doubling the number of shops over the next five years. This expansion will help us promote Rainbows Hospice within new communities and raise vital funds for our services.

To support this exciting development, we are seeking a motivated person to join the team and make a difference as a Retail Operations Assistant Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing a portfolio of shops, providing line management to shop managers, and ensuring they achieve agreed income and profit levels by supporting the day to day running of the shops. Within this role you will need to be hands on, sometimes covering staff members in shops, supporting Shop Managers to keep lone working to a minimum and ensure the shops are able to run efficiently.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, requiring 37.5 hours per week on a 5 out of 7-day rota basis, with the flexibility to cover weekends if needed. The role involves travel across the East Midlands, so having your own transport is essential.

About the role

The Retail Operations Assistant Manager will ensure our shops deliver a high-quality retail service, meeting performance targets and standards. This includes providing exceptional customer care, driving customer loyalty, and maintaining a professional representation of Rainbows Hospice on the high street.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Effective Line management of the shop managers creating a culture of empowerment through coaching and situational leadership and ownership of income and expenditure budgets.
  • Deputising for the Retail Operations Manager.
  • Ensure that the shop managers are effectively planning, managing stock and that standards are being maintained.
  • Ensure Rainbow’s shops represent the brand in order to raise as much income and awareness as possible.
  • Ensure that risk is being effectively managed, and the shops are complying with all legislation and policies including Health and Safety.
  • Ensure that the managers are successfully recruiting and retaining volunteers and that the volunteer experience is a good one.
  • Work with the eCommerce Manager to maximise the sale value of donated items responsible for a good flow of communication and transfer of goods through the shop network to the eCommerce Hub.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of charity retail, how it works and key challenges.
  • Promotion of excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing, leading and developing staff.
  • Business planning and working to targets and KPIs
  • Ability to remote manage over a large geographical area
